This Lego Cylon Baseship is Frakking Awesome

As far as Cylon warships go, it doesn't get more badass than a Baseship. Garry King built this impressive 16,387-brick, 36-pound Lego Baseship from one of the original designs by Ralph McQuarrie—the genius artist behind the original Star Wars trilogy, E.T. and the original Battlestar Galactica.

It's not the easiest thing in the world to build a round Lego spaceship with so many straight lines. The ship is able to stand upright from a small base, and the main hull features three landing bays:

There is very little reference material available for this ship just the basic shape. The detail is applied for a dramatic effect. If you have a look at the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica series. The first movie Saga of star worlds when Apollo and Zac go on patrol and see a Cylon tanker the scan through their onboard war book display and this beauty is unveiled for the first time.

I used dark blue as a contrasting break from the boring, dark green is used for the landing bay decks and dark red I felt it needed to link it to Battlestar Galactica, the Cylon red eye for an added effect. Allowing the imagination to run free, The red line runs around the circumference of the circular disc. This is used as a scanner to seek out the inferior human pests.

I love everything about this build. It's a beautiful throwback to late '70s spaceship design concepts. It's both imposing and industrial and at the same time elegant. Check out how it was built here. [MocPages]
